“Broke people shouldn't have kids” – DJ DSF says

Nigerian media personality DJ DSF has sparked a conversation about parenting and financial responsibility after stating that people who cannot afford to raise children should not have them.

Speaking on the My Unpopular Opinion podcast, she argued that bringing children into the world without the financial means to care for them places an unfair burden on both the children and their families.

“My unpopular opinion is broke people shouldn't have kids. I don't think it's fair to the children. It's not fair to the family. It's not fair to yourself,” she said.

Citing her cousin, who has five children, DSF questioned why someone already struggling financially would continue having more children.

“I have a cousin that has five kids, and she's been broke since she had the first one. Why do you have five? Every other week it's, ‘Oh, can I have money for school fees? I don't have money to feed this one,’” she said.

When one of the interviewers argued that some successful people emerged from difficult backgrounds, DSF questioned why parents would deliberately want their children to experience similar hardship.

“I was birthed into a struggle. Why would I want my kids to be birthed into a struggle? I had to fight. Do I want my kids to fight?” she asked.

The discussion also touched on whether growing up in difficult circumstances builds resilience or places unnecessary pressure on children.
