The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued an ultimatum giving the Federal Government until October 27, 2026, to address its key economic demands or face a potential nationwide shutdown of economic activities.
The announcement was made in a statement on Thursday by NLC Acting General Secretary Benson Upah following an inconclusive meeting with the Minister of Labour.
Labour is demanding an immediate reduction in pump prices for petrol—which have climbed as high as ₦1,429 per litre, alongside an upward revision of the national minimum wage from the current ₦70,000.
Expressing frustration over the lack of firm commitments during negotiations, the NLC disclosed that all core issues remain unresolved.
In response, the union has instructed its state councils, affiliate unions, and civil society partners to initiate mobilization for potential industrial action starting October 27.
