Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has announced a $20,000 fund to support organisations dedicated to improving the lives of people living with sickle cell disease.
The initiative, established through the Adekunle Gold Foundation in collaboration with financial platform PESA, forms part of the foundation’s WE’RE NOT DONE campaign.
The project is designed to strengthen ongoing efforts to support the sickle cell community by providing financial assistance to organisations already working to improve patients’ lives.
Four organisations across Nigeria, Canada, Ghana and the United Kingdom have been selected to benefit from the initiative. They include the Sickle Cell Advocacy Management Initiative in Nigeria, Not Just You in Canada, Sickle Life in Ghana, and It Takes A Village in the United Kingdom.
The funding will help the organisations expand their work in areas such as healthcare access, patient support, public education and advocacy for people affected by sickle cell disease.
Announcing the initiative in a video, Adekunle Gold emphasised the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges associated with the condition.
“The fight against sickle cell is bigger than any one person or foundation. There’s still so much work to be done, and so many lives waiting to be changed. We cannot do it alone,” he said.
