Early life
Adekunle Gold studied at Lagos State Polytechnic and worked as a graphic designer — he was known for creating artwork for other musicians — while trying to break into music.
His cover-inspired song “Sade” went viral in 2015 and earned him a deal with Olamide’s YBNL. His debut album Gold (2016), with “Orente” and “Pick Up”, brought a fresh “urban highlife” sound.
Reinvention as “AG Baby”
After leaving YBNL he moved towards modern Afropop with Afro Pop, Vol. 1 (2020) and hits such as “High” and “Okay”. Catch Me If You Can (2022) and Tequila Ever After (2023) brought international collaborations and tours.
