Woman falls to her demise in Italian Alps while trying to take a photo

A 36-year-old woman from Florida has passed on after falling from a mountain overlook in Italy while reportedly trying to take a photograph.

Michelle Alejandra Rubio Leiva was hiking with her family in the Dolomites near Val di Fassa in Trentino last weekend when she lost her balance, according to Italian media reports cited by TMZ. Local reports estimated the fall at up to 980 feet, although the exact distance has not been established. The family had reportedly been heading towards a cable car that would take them to a restaurant farther up the mountain.

Rescuers reached Rubio Leiva, but a doctor confirmed her demise at the scene. The remaining family members were airlifted from the mountain. Rubio Leiva graduated from Brigham Young University in 2012. She worked as a digital nomad and had lived in Rome the previous year.
